Memories :)

So recently there has been a ton of deaths/injuries this week. Unreal. We said goodbye to two worldwide legendary people but we also said goodbye to a legend less well known, but still in the hearts of those that went through the girl's basketball prgram at Central Mountain High School. He was the legend known as Skip Confer. He had a certain way with people and how he coached that could have had some people on the sidelines with him, but for me and my graduating class he meant so much to us. He seriously was a legend though. If you heard the name Skip whispered in the halls at school it was either followed by a shudder or a warm smile and a long list of fond memories. My reaction would be the latter of course. He was my first basketball coach and instead of giving up on my lack of understanding and skill at first, he saw something in me that I couldn't and he pushed for me to become better. He took me under his wing and showed me the ropes of basketball and then threw the terrified me onto the court under his watchful eye. Because of him I love the sport and have grown in it. Plays were learned better, drills were executed faster, and yes I even grew a backbone and played hard defense for him my junior year. He wanted nothing but the best from all of us and we tried our hardest to give him that.

As of Thursday our hometown legend went out fighting. For the past couple of years he has been fighting off cancer. Regardless of cancer though he tried to make it to every home game and even some of the away games. It was hard on him, and us, but he did it for the love of the game. I can honestly say that alot of us have become better people from just having known him. He will forever be in our hearts and everytime any of us steps out on to the court he will be right there with us; encouraging, coaching, laughing, and celebrating our successes in life and basketball. Rest in peace Skip, you are in a far better place than you left. And no worries, we will all be ok :)

Back in Action!

So I figure its been like two months or so since I've written...should probably break that record and write a little. I've been back in PA for about a little over a month now and have seen eh five friends from high school, have no job, AND there is only so much to do around here. But! on the positive side those five or so friends were probably the only ones I really wanted to see from high school, I get to hang out with plenty of other friends that live here, I'm free from the death grasp of Domino's(even though a little income would be nice now and then), and we find random things to do. Like a road trip to North Carolina? Any takers? Lol.

Back to the high school friend thing...before I left for college I didn't want to leave my friends behind and forget about them, but now that's changed. I'm not saying I don't care about the people I graduated with and what not, but I don't feel that need to please them anymore and be the person they used to walk all over. I wish I could see them since we all live within five miles of each other but I've already made an effort to see them and they've ignored it. Oh well...life moves on.

This past weekend I had the most amazing opportunity to go on a spontaneous road trip to North Carolina with three of my close friends. Let me tell you, it was rockin!! Not only were our hands down amazing dance moves in the car rockin but the beach and being able to hang out with my friends and Jeff and his family were as well! It was definitely worth it and I want to thank those that made it possible:) Even if we were crammed in a car for hours on end, it was the best road trip ever!

So after all of the excitement and what not, I am now home trying to occupy the hours of the day with something more than tv, movies, and shoving my face full of food. A work in progress:)
